Cambodia’s largest digital technology event is coming

07.31.2009 in Announcement | 3 comments

After several months of planning works, BarCamp Phnom Penh core team are very much delighted to provide updates on the upcoming event (it’s coming, for sure).

We’re proud to have prestigious Paññasastra University of Cambodia (PUC) to be the prime venue of the BarCampm Phnom Penh ‘09.

2008 saw BarCamp was held in the Cambodian capital for the first time. The Phnom Penh Post reporter Eleanor Ainge Roy wrote that: “…Cambodia’s meeting held true to the open, collaborative essence of its origins.” We hope that BarCamp Phnom Penh plays an integral part in inspiring tech enthusiasts in Cambodia to work together collaboratively, and hopefully building a stronger tech community.

This year we’ve got a grand plan to make it even larger, more exciting, and in particular more collaborative. To do so, we have been working with more tech people from different places, with different perspectives, to ensure that the event will be full of diversities. Last year, more than 300 technology enthusiasts participated in the day-long BarCamp at Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC). This year we hope to bring as many as 500 people to enjoy talking and meeting in this upcoming event, which will last two days. BarCamp Phnom Penh 2 hopes to bring together technology enthusiasts both in Cambodia and its neighboring countries to exchange skills and experiences in the field information and communication technologies.

On the sponsorship front, a number of institutions and firms have already pledged their supports; this makes it possible for us to cover the most necessary parts to move forward with a number of important things. The sponsorship opportunity is not closed yet; if you’re running private businesses, and would like to take part in some way, please contact us at info@barcampphnompenh.org. Or call us: (+855) 12 316 781, (+855) 12 256 422.

On the road to BarCamp Phnom Penh ‘09, we have been running a series of small gatherings to talk and discuss with Cambodia tech community. If you’re interested in joining the geeky talking meetup, following us via Twitter or visiting this site is the best way.

The date of the event will be announced soon. Thus, please stay tuned!

About Paññasastra University of Cambodia (PUC)
PUC was initially established in 1997, but was not in operation until Year 2000, the beginning of the new Millennium. It was founded by a group of Cambodian expatriates from the United States of America, whose objectives are to contribute to the development and enhancement of Cambodia’s human resources; and to play an active role in the “nation building” process for future generations.
