Live blogging: Digital Citizen Meetup II

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

6 people show up this afternoon (Mean Lux left early for another meeting). Norbert, Virak, John, Thomas, and Preab Kol are here. Earlier, Sopha sent me a text message to inform that she couldn’t come for she has other business comes to attention. So as Chharda sent a message to say hello to everyone at the cafe as she has to assist her friend’s wedding.

To begin with, we discuss which the best venue to host BarCamp Phnom Penh and way to get it (we’ll find sponsorship to pay for the host if necessary). More news about this will be announced soon, hopefully, as we want to make sure we get the venue so that we can start big publicity for the event.

Come to Facebook, one of our topics for today, is an interesting one to debate. Thomas doesn’t like Facebook; however, he prefers Twitter. Like Virak, they both are heavy Twitter users. They think it’s important to say ‘what they’re actively doing’. There is still some concern with privacy, though, when it comes to joining any social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace, and so. There is a pro and con here. Facebook users seem to find the site a place to keep their friends and people they’ve met in contact. Wow, for some Facebook users it’s hard to leave the networking site.

What’s else are we talking about? Gossips, of course.
